TEPSA Region Bylaws Vote

February 23 – March 9

Goal: To bring region bylaws into alignment with the state bylaws approved by TEPSA members in 2019.

Items for Consideration

Strikethroughs indicate original language. Red text indicates proposed wording. The following sections are recommended for update.

ARTICLE III
MEETINGS OF MEMBERS

Section 1. Annual and General Meetings. There shall be a TEPSA Region 1 meeting held each year. during the fall and a minimum of one additional general meeting shall be held by the region each year. Additional meetings may be called, as deemed necessary, by the TEPSA Region 1 Executive Committee.

Rationale: Reduce the minimum number of required meetings. Based on feedback, we’re loosening the requirements for TEPSA region participation. Only one region meeting will be required per year; however, region officers have the flexibility to host more meetings.

ARTICLE IV
REGION OFFICERS AND ELECTIONS

Section 2. Number. The officers of this region association shall consist of a minimum of three (3) region officers. These may shall be: President, President-Elect and one additional officer. (Optional roles are: Vice President, Member At-Large, First Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Past President.)

Rationale: Decreasing officer participation and member feedback from focus groups and surveys has been clear people want opportunities for quick, easy ways to volunteer. Today’s principals are not volunteering for 5-7 year commitments.

Section 5. Term of Office. The term of office for Region officer shall be one (1) full year 2 year(s). Officers may be reappointed or reelected to additional terms, provided that no such person shall serve more than two (2) consecutive terms in the same position.

Rationale: Limit officer terms to one year with option to serve a second consecutive year. State bylaws prohibit a person from serving on the Board of Directors for more than two consecutive years.

Section 12. Officer Responsibilities

These are personalized for your region.

Rationale: Clean up officer language and ensure all major TEPSA responsibilities are assigned: membership, communications, region events, awards, minutes, annual audit, and finances.

ARTICLE V
COMMITTEES

Section. 2. Executive Committee. The Region Executive Committee shall consist of the elected officers and the most recent Past-President as an ex-officio member. The President is chairman of this committee.

Rationale: Strikes past president language from regions who choose to align with the state bylaws by dissolving that position.
