TEPSA Congressional Visits - July 2006

TEPSA  representatives traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the NAESP/NASSP National Leaders Conference.  Those participating were: President Karen Bessette, President-Elect Celia Layton, NAESP Representative Mark Lukert, Past President Mark Terry, Executive Director Sandi Borden and Associate Executive Director Harley Eckhart.

Talking Points

  • Fund federal laws at the levels authorized by Congress
  • Provide support to attract and support school leaders and teachers
  • Address literacy across all grade configurations
  • Reauthorize the ESEA in a way that provides support to principals and other educators and includes factors other than standardized test scores for determining the status of schools.
  • Ensure federal laws such as NCLB and IDEA do not conflict with each other
